No More Rumors!
Fans are praying for the firing of Bill Callahan and the hiring of someone like Bo Pelini, Turner Gill, or Navy’s Paul Johnson. Hoping for something is one thing, deliberately passing misinformation is another. For those of you out in cyberspace passing around emails like the one from “Mick Richards” saying they know a guy, who knows a guy, who is neighbors with someone who works with Dr. Tom Osborne: PLEASE STOP.
Barring emergency, Dr. Osborne will be a man of his word and evaluate the staff at the end of the season. He is a man of class who, even in the face of intense national media pressure, will not cave into asking for the resignation of, or firing Head Coach Bill Callahan. You all should know that. When Callahan is asked or forced to leave, know that Dr. Osborne will take no joy in that fact. The is the man quoted as saying “I celebrate a victory when I start walking off the field. By the time I get to the locker room, I’m done.”
He understands the ups and downs of college football more than most. Waiting two more weeks is nothing in light of his history. Our time may come, but ask Dr. Osborne about it, and this is what I think he would say: “Everybody was saying ‘It’s our turn. It’s your year,’ but in athletics you don’t take turns.” (Sports Illustrated Jan. 9, 1995).
