Slow and Steady

When I first heard the beginning of Spring Practice press conference, I was not impressed. The no-nonsense approach to the practices seemed boring, trite, almost cliché for a team coming off one of the worst seasons in school history. Bo just came out and said what needed to be done and how they were going to do it. I thought the team needed to get off to a bang. My initial instincts were wrong.
A strong foundation takes time and effort to build. Laying bricks is difficult, tedious work. By now, everyone has heard about the leaner speed machines we have from winter conditioning. Dillard, Slauson, Potter, and many more have shed pounds to increase their speed. As we’re beginning to see, the coaches have a plan for the future Blackshirts - swarm on every play.
As for the Offense, apparently, the coaches have a plan. It is the-offense-that-shall-not-be-named. Earlier, Watson and Pelini referred to the “multiple” look and feel. Multiple is a great word and name, but just doesn’t have that panache a team needs to inspire fear and concern into the hearts of D-coordinators in the Big XII. No matter what the offense gets “named” it should make people happier to see it run the “Nebraska Way.”
Happy fans are usually an indication of happy players and coaches. But the honeymoon period will eventually wax, wane and we will want wins (wow, alliteration). Do happy players win? Found thanks to this article is a great quote from by Hall of Fame Texas Coach Darrell Royal: “Trends are bunk. Only angry people win football games.”
