Steve Octavien Nearly a Chief
The Chiefs and Steve Octavien are apparently going to come to an agreement either today or tomorrow according to LJS. According to news-press.com Octavien was called by Kansas City right after the draft was done. Octavien fills a need in the next few years at Linebacker with veterans Napolean Harris and Donnie Edwards looking at an increasingly younger, rebuilding team around them. KC just signed former Husker Demorrio Williams in March in anticipation of future LB moves.
I think this is a smart move by the Chiefs, who arguably had the best draft weekend of any NFL team. They are doing well to shore up the linebacker position which is probably the most experienced part of the team right now. That will probably change as the mode of operation right now is to “go younger.” Carl Petersen may have staved off criticisms of his management for just a little while longer. Coming off one of the most boneheaded NFL moves ever by letting Jared Allen get away, he needed a good draft to keep his job going for more than the 2008 season.
I guess we’ll see how it turns out, as well as see what other Nebraska players get looked at over the next two or three days.
