How Will Pelini "Restore the Order?"
When Dr. Tom Osborne began the search for Nebraska’s next head coach, he had the support of UNL and the whole state. Osborne said it himself that Nebraska needed a coach with Leadership Abilities, Confidence, Defensive Credentials (see my previous article for this point), and a Respect for Tradition. Bo Pelini has all of those things, as well as the intangible “it” factor. Pelini will restore the order by utilizing these traits to bring Nebraska football back to the glory days (and all without running the power-I option full time).
Free at Last!
As the Bill Callahan era drew to a close, I likened the feeling to the end of a sentence or punishment. It’s as if the football gods had decided: OK, you’ve learned your lesson, lets get back to what this game is all about. Did Bill Callahan know what Nebraska football was about? I doubt it. But you know what? Bo Pelini knows. Pelini knows that Nebraska football is about TRADITION. What does that mean for our program?
Osborne: the Rock of Nebraska Athletics
Since October 16, 2007, we have seen nothing but accountability, responsibility, and class from the Husker’s interim athletic director Dr. Tom Osborne. From the beginning of his tenure, he has been a man of his word in a nation that seems to throw all ethics and positive behavior out the window during the low points of a football program. If Dr. Osborne supplants ex-head coach Bill Callahan with a successful long-term coach and hand picks his athletic director successor, he will be revered with mythical status usually reserved for Rock Stars, Presidents, Movie Stars, the Pope, and other Heads of State.
No More Rumors!
Fans are praying for the firing of Bill Callahan and the hiring of someone like Bo Pelini, Turner Gill, or Navy’s Paul Johnson. Hoping for something is one thing, deliberately passing misinformation is another. For those of you out in cyberspace passing around emails like the one from “Mick Richards” saying they know a guy, who knows a guy, who is neighbors with someone who works with Dr. Tom Osborne: PLEASE STOP.
